Fall in galley resulting in laceration to hand

An individual was walking fairly quickly through the galley. Whilst turning a 90 degree corner, which she did by pivoting on her heel, she lost her footing and slipped resulting in a fall to the floor.

During her decent, she put her right hand out in an attempt to break her fall. At this point she sustained a deep laceration to her right hand.

During the investigation it was established the floor was dry and in good condition and the safety shoes being worn were in good condition.

The individual was sent onshore and received medical attention to stitch the wound. The injury resulted in an extended period of time away from work to enable recovery.
