Craig Wiggins has nearly 40 years of experience in the energy industry. He has vast knowledge and experiences from front line operations to the board room. He is passionate about simplification and efficiency of processes due to strong experiences in lean manufacturing and is focused on making sure the people in the front line have the highest safety standards.

Craig started his career in 1985 as a Trainee Operations Technician and spent next 25 years at Shell in a variety of Operations and Business Improvement roles such as Offshore Installation Manger and finally as the St Fergus Gas Plant Manager.

Craig has also held senior operations leadership positions with Petrofac and BP. He joined Aker Solutions in 2015 as the Managing Director of their UK Maintenance, Modification and Operations Business which then developed into leading that business in the Middle East and Africa. In 2018 Craig became the Head of Health, Safety, Security and the Environment for Aker Solution’s global operations.

In 2022, Craig joined NEO Energy as their HSE & ESG Director.

Craig joined Step Change in Safety in October 2023 as Executive Director.

Craig has an MBA and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

A former research scientist, Gillian joined Step Change in Safety in February 2012 after working with Oil & Gas UK on the Well Life Cycle Practices forum.

Gillian holds a PhD in molecular biology and her career has included spells as an assistant editor for an international scientific journal and as a school teacher.

At Step Change in Safety, she oversees a number of projects including Major Accident Hazard Understanding, Wellbeing and Workforce Engagement.

Aimie was previously an HSSE Advisor at Aker Solution, which she joined in 2010 and was the company’s Step Change in Safety Focal Point for more than four years.

Most recently, Aimie was the site HSSE Advisor for Aker’s manufacture and test workshops, warehouse and yard. She’s was also responsible for the co-ordination and drive of HSSE Plan actions; the review and development of HSSE procedures; and the undertaking of inspections, audits, and incident investigations.

Aimie joined Step Change in Safety in 2019.

Alan McIntyre is an accomplished Programme Delivery Manager with extensive experience in safety leadership, crisis management, and operational excellence within the energy and safety sectors. At Step Change in Safety, Alan plays a pivotal role in delivering industry-wide safety programmes, fostering collaboration across stakeholders, and driving meaningful improvements throughout the UK energy industry.

He oversees a number of key workgroups and networks, including Human Factors, Process Safety Leadership, Lifting and Mechanical Handling, the Elective Safety Representatives’ (ESR) Network, the Site Managers Network, and the Safety in Decommissioning Network, ensuring these forums effectively share knowledge and drive best practices across the sector.

With over ten years in senior management roles, Alan’s career includes key positions such as Safety Officer at Stena Drilling, Director of Managed Services and Consultancy at RelyOn Nutec UK, and Global Service Line Manager at Restrata, where he oversaw international operations spanning the UK, Middle East, and Asia Pacific. His leadership expertise centres on enhancing crisis and continuity management, boosting training quality, and strengthening organisational resilience.

Alan is skilled in managing complex projects and multi-million-pound budgets while leading diverse teams through significant transformation and integration initiatives. He has led the development of emergency response strategies, established nationally recognised training programmes, and actively contributed to industry best practice through collaborations with the Energy Institute.

Alan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Robert Gordon University. Known for his diligent work ethic, analytical mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement, he remains dedicated to advancing safety excellence for both his teams and the wider industry.

With over 20 years’ experience in the energy industry, Nicola specialises in communications, stakeholder engagement, and project management. As Business Engagement Manager, she drives membership relations, manages communications & marketing activity, and oversees our presence at conferences & exhibitions.

Before joining SCiS, Nicola held senior communications roles at Stork (now Altrad Integrity Services) and managed client projects at Fine Day Studio. Her career also includes key positions at Sparrows Group (now Altrad Sparrows), Expro, and the Society for Underwater Technology, where she built a reputation for connecting people, purpose, and process.

She holds professional certifications in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH), Business & Climate Change (CISL), and Wellbeing Psychology, demonstrating her passion for creating safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplaces for everyone.

Nicola joined Step Change in Safety in May 2022 and plays a key role in supporting the organisation’s mission by developing and delivering digital communications that enhance workforce safety and wellbeing across the energy industry. In her role, Nicola manages content creation, social media campaigns, and digital engagement initiatives to ensure clear and effective communication with members and stakeholders.

She graduated with First Class Honours in Digital Marketing from Robert Gordon University, where she gained practical experience in digital strategy, content marketing, and data analytics—skills she applies daily to help drive Step Change in Safety’s communications forward.

Before stepping into her current position, Nicola supported the organisation as a Communications and Digital Intern and also contributed to digital communications for the University of Aberdeen’s School of Natural and Computing Sciences. Her early experience includes creative and digital media apprenticeships and customer-facing roles that have helped build her strong organisational and teamwork abilities.

Based in Aberdeen, Scotland, Nicola is passionate about leveraging digital tools to foster safer, more informed workplaces across the energy industry.

Emma has been an integral part of the Step Change in Safety team since April 2012, overseeing the organisation’s administrative functions and providing invaluable support to the whole team and its members. Prior to joining Step Change in Safety, she worked in the accounts and administration departments at companies in the energy and occupational health sectors.

Along with managing the clerical functions, Emma is the first point of contact for enquiries relating to membership of Step Change in Safety and the portfolio of events we organise.
