Near Miss during Garbage Compactor Backload

During cargo operations at an offshore installation a waste garbage compactor unit was being lowered to the deck of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV).

During the lifting operation the door opened slightly, resulting in a small quantity of garbage being spilled onto the deck of the PSV.

Fortunately, the compactor was at deck level when the door opened. No injury or environmental impact occurred.
